Need for More Occupational Therapy Services

"Occupational therapy has proved its value. But now is the time for this work to go further and faster." Julia Scott, occupational therapist in Wales

In Great Britain, the Welsh government has realized the value occupational therapy brings to its citizens and the increased need for more occupational therapy services.  The article that is attached below discusses the "key role" occupational therapists are playing in health care in Wales and all across Great Britain.  This article specifically demonstrates the way occupational therapists have enhanced the lives of their elderly population.  Not only do OT services bring dignity to their elderly clients in helping them to increase their functionality and ability to participate in activities of daily living and activities that are meaningful to them, but OT services in Wales have also saved the government money because of occupational therapy's emphasis on holistic care and preventative treatment.

I completely agree with this article by the BBC that occupational therapy services are valuable and that there is an increased need for more occupational therapists and greater access to OT services.  I am glad government leaders in Wales realize the benefits of occupational therapy in reducing health care costs, and I hope more OT practitioners are trained and able to meet the needs for their elderly population and more.
